Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

At The Red Door, we believe that understanding the financial aspects of therapy is an important part of making informed decisions about your care.

Under the federal No Surprises Act, individuals who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use their health insurance to pay for healthcare services have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.

A Good Faith Estimate helps you understand the anticipated cost of your care before services are provided.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate upon request or when scheduling qualifying healthcare services.

1. Individual Psychotherapy Fees

The Red Door provides private-pay individual psychotherapy through telehealth to clients physically located in Colorado.

Our current private-pay rate is:

$176 per individual psychotherapy session
Session duration: 60–75 minutes

The total anticipated cost of psychotherapy depends on the frequency and number of sessions and the expected duration of treatment.

Because each person's needs and goals are different, the length of therapy is determined collaboratively and may change over time.

2. What Your Good Faith Estimate Includes

When applicable, your individualized Good Faith Estimate will identify:

  • The healthcare services reasonably expected to be provided

  • The expected charges for those services

  • The anticipated frequency and number of sessions, when known

  • The estimated total cost over the identified period of care

  • Additional information required under federal law

For ongoing psychotherapy, an estimate may cover an anticipated series of sessions for a period not exceeding 12 months.

If the anticipated services, frequency, duration, or charges change, an updated estimate will be provided when required.

A Good Faith Estimate is not a bill, a contract for a specific number of sessions, or a guarantee of the final cost of treatment.

Receiving an estimate does not obligate you to begin or continue therapy.

3. When You Will Receive Your Estimate

Under federal law:

  • If you schedule a service 3–9 business days in advance, your Good Faith Estimate generally must be provided within 1 business day after scheduling.

  • If you schedule a service 10 or more business days in advance, your estimate generally must be provided within 3 business days after scheduling.

  • If you request an estimate before scheduling, it generally must be provided within 3 business days after your request.

You may request a Good Faith Estimate at any time, including before deciding whether to begin psychotherapy.

The estimate will be provided in writing, either electronically or on paper, according to applicable requirements and your preferred format.

4. If Your Bill Is Higher Than Your Estimate

If you receive a bill from a provider or facility that is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate you received from that provider or facility, you may be eligible to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.

To initiate a qualifying dispute, you generally must act within 120 calendar days of receiving the initial bill.

You may also contact The Red Door to discuss billing questions or discrepancies.

You are encouraged to retain a copy of your Good Faith Estimate and compare it with your final charges.
