A step toward something different…
Stuck in your head? Let’s help you take a step forward.
When stress, anxiety, and overthinking take over, it’s easy to fall into patterns that keep you stuck.
Maybe you overthink, overwork, people-please, shut down, or stay stuck in your head trying to figure everything out.
At The Red Door Therapy & Wellness Solutions, we help high-achieving, busy-brained, people pleasers slow things down, get unhooked from exhausting patterns, and begin making small, meaningful moves toward the life they actually want.
A Different Approach To Therapy
Each of our therapists brings their own personality, specialties, and clinical style, but we share a common foundation rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), experiential care, and what we often call a toward-move approach to change.
Many of the people we work with already know what would probably help. The challenge is not a lack of insight. The challenge is trying to apply those insights while navigating stress, anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, emotional overwhelm, relationships, demanding careers, and nervous systems that rarely feel fully settled.
That’s why our approach focuses not only on insight, but on helping clients begin practicing small, meaningful changes in real life. A toward move is a small, intentional step toward the kind of life, relationships, and version of yourself you actually want, even when stress, self-doubt, anxiety, or difficult emotions are still present.
Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
Just one meaningful step at a time.
Sometimes, it simply looks like reaching out and scheduling a first appointment.

Emily Macniven, Founder & Lead Therapist
You’ve learned how to keep functioning, achieving, caregiving, and carrying responsibility, even while feeling mentally overloaded, emotionally exhausted, and disconnected from yourself underneath it all.
“I believe therapy should help you move beyond simply surviving your life. My goal is to help you slow things down, get unhooked from the patterns keeping you stuck in constant striving, and begin making small, meaningful moves toward a life of greater vitality, presence, and thriving.”
Meet Emily! (She/Her)
I specialize in supporting high-achieving, busy-brained people pleasers navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, relationship challenges, trauma, and emotional exhaustion.

I work with high-achieving, busy-brained adults who are tired of living in constant overdrive.
Many of my clients are carrying anxiety, burnout, overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or the pressure of trying to hold everything together while quietly feeling exhausted underneath it all. They often know what would probably help, but struggle to slow down long enough to actually apply it consistently in their real lives.
I help clients move beyond simply surviving stress and begin making small, meaningful changes that feel more grounded, intentional, and sustainable over time.
-
My approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and somatic, body-based therapy, helping clients get unhooked from perfectionism, overthinking, and the internal pressure that keeps them stuck in constant overdrive.
In addition to individual therapy, I also integrate Walk & Talk Therapy, therapy groups, and wellness-based supports to help clients build meaningful, sustainable change that carries into everyday life.
My style is warm, down-to-earth, and active. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe enough to be real, while also having practical support that helps you actually do something different outside of the session. I tend to blend reflection, skill-building, nervous system and somatic awareness, and practical action-oriented strategies to help clients slow things down, get unhooked from unhelpful patterns, and start responding more intentionally to life’s challenges.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado and the founder of The Red Door Therapy & Wellness Solutions. My background uniquely bridges both mental health and educational leadership, giving me a deep understanding of how anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm develop not only within individuals, but within the demanding systems and environments they navigate every day.
I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with a focus on burnout, implementation, and sustainable mental health support.
My professional journey has uniquely shaped the way I understand the emotional load carried by high-achieving, helping-oriented people who are often balancing immense responsibility while quietly struggling underneath the surface.

In session, you can expect a space that feels warm, real, collaborative, and grounded in practical support.
We will slow things down together, explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and begin identifying small, meaningful “toward moves” that align with the life you actually want to build.
My approach is active and experiential, meaning therapy is not just about talking about problems, but helping you notice what is happening in the moment, build new skills and responses, and begin applying them in your real life.
Sessions may include reflection, nervous system and somatic awareness, mindfulness and unhooking skills, values exploration, and practical strategies that help you move beyond simply surviving stress and instead move toward living with greater intention, flexibility, and vitality.
-
Outside of the therapy room, I deeply value my own “Movement-based Resets” and the ways they help me slow down, reconnect, and come back to the present moment. I love walking, hiking, being in nature, yoga, tai chi, and working out.
I’m also mildly obsessed with puzzles, board games, and interior decorating, anything that taps into creativity, curiosity, strategy, and creating spaces that feel grounding and alive.
A large part of my life outside of therapy is also spent researching, writing, and exploring sustainable approaches to mental health, burnout, nervous system regulation, and how we can better integrate meaningful wellness practices into real, everyday life rather than treating self-care as just one more thing to accomplish.

Ready to stop living in constant overdrive?
The longer you stay stuck in survival mode, the more life can start to feel like something you’re simply trying to get through instead of something you’re actually living. Overthinking, burnout, anxiety, and constantly carrying the weight of everything on your own can quietly pull you further away from the relationships, presence, energy, and vitality you want for your life. Change does not happen all at once, but it often begins with one small toward move. Therapy can become a space where you stop just reacting to life and start responding to it more intentionally, with greater clarity, flexibility, connection, and self-trust. If you’re ready to begin making different moves, I invite you to schedule an individual session or explore one of my therapy groups.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado, and my clinical perspective is shaped by over a decade of international experience and a dual-master’s education. I first earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from Colorado Christian University before later pursuing a Master of Arts in Systemic Psychology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where I practiced for many years with an emphasis on systemic and couples work. Outside of the office, I deeply value moments that allow me to slow down, reset, and reconnect with myself through creativity. I especially enjoy listening to music and creating art, and I believe creative expression can be a powerful way to process emotions, restore balance, and reconnect with parts of ourselves that often get buried beneath stress and responsibility. Making space for creativity is an important part of how I care for my own wellbeing, and it continually reminds me of the importance of presence, self-expression, and authenticity.

In session, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you do not have to carry everything alone. I believe therapy should move at a pace that feels safe and respectful while also helping you gently explore the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may be keeping you stuck. Sessions may include reflection, mindfulness and grounding practices, values exploration, and meaningful conversations that help you reconnect with yourself and move toward the life you want to create.

Outside of the therapy room, I value spending time reconnecting with myself through my own movement-based resets. I regularly enjoy trail running, hiking, and backpacking, and I find that being outdoors helps me slow down, stay grounded, and reconnect with what matters most.

Ready to stop carrying everything on your own?
You do not have to keep carrying everything on your own. When stress, grief, trauma, or emotional exhaustion go unprocessed for too long, it can become difficult to feel fully present in your relationships, your decisions, and even within yourself. Therapy offers a space to slow down, feel supported, and begin making sense of what you’ve been holding while reconnecting with what matters most to you. If you are ready for a space that feels compassionate, grounded, and genuinely supportive, I invite you to schedule a session and begin that process together.
Wondering who might be the best fit?
You will get the most out of therapy when you’re working with someone who feels like the right fit for you, and we’re committed to helping you find that person.
Reach out to share more about what’s been feeling hard, what you’re hoping for, and the kind of support you’re looking for. We’ll help connect you with a therapist whose personality, background, training, and approach align with your needs and goals.
