  • Master of Education (MEd), School Counseling — University of Northern Colorado

Professional Licensure

Colorado Licensed Professional Counselor — LPC.0019496

Colorado LPC licensure generally requires qualifying graduate education in professional counseling or an equivalent program, supervised clinical experience, and successful completion of applicable licensing examinations.

Professional Training and Experience

Emily brings more than 20 years of combined experience in education and mental health, including work as an educator, school counselor, school administrator, and therapist.

Her clinical approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed practice, and attention to the interaction between thoughts, emotions, nervous-system responses, relationships, and everyday functioning.

3. Approach to Psychotherapy

The Red Door provides individualized psychotherapy grounded in collaboration, psychological flexibility, and meaningful behavior change.

Therapeutic work may include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Values clarification and values-guided action

  • Mindfulness, emotional awareness, and cognitive defusion

  • Trauma-informed approaches

  • Development of boundaries, relational skills, and self-advocacy

  • Practical strategies for responding to distress, uncertainty, and everyday challenges

Therapeutic methods are selected collaboratively based on individual needs, clinical assessment, treatment goals, and professional judgment.

Clients are encouraged to ask questions about the techniques being used, their intended purposes, and potential alternatives.

No particular therapeutic outcome can be guaranteed.

4. Duration of Therapy and Fees

The duration of psychotherapy varies according to individual circumstances, treatment goals, clinical needs, and progress.

Some clients seek support for a specific concern, while others benefit from a longer-term therapeutic relationship.

Treatment goals, progress, and the ongoing usefulness of services are reviewed collaboratively.

Clients are entitled to information about the methods of therapy, techniques used, anticipated duration of therapy when known, and the fee structure.

Individual Psychotherapy Fees

The Red Door operates on a private-pay basis.

  • Individual psychotherapy: $176 per session

  • Session duration: 60–75 minutes

Fees, billing practices, payment responsibilities, and applicable cancellation policies are disclosed before services begin through the practice's scheduling and informed-consent materials.

5. Your Rights as a Client

Under Colorado law, psychotherapy clients have important rights regarding their treatment.

You have the right to:

  • Receive information about therapeutic methods, techniques, expected duration when known, and fees.

  • Ask questions about your treatment and participate in treatment decisions.

  • Seek a second opinion from another mental health professional.

  • Terminate therapy at any time.

  • Receive professional services consistent with applicable ethical and legal standards.

  • Understand the confidentiality protections and legal limitations associated with psychotherapy.

Choosing to seek a second opinion or discontinue therapy does not eliminate responsibility for services already provided or other valid financial obligations.

When clinically appropriate, assistance with referrals or continuity of care may be offered.

6. Professional Boundaries and Sexual Misconduct

A professional therapeutic relationship must maintain appropriate ethical and professional boundaries.

Sexual intimacy between a therapist and client is never appropriate within a professional relationship.

Such conduct should be reported to the Colorado State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners.

Clients may contact the Board directly with concerns about professional conduct.

7. Confidentiality and Its Limitations

Information shared during psychotherapy is legally confidential and protected under applicable Colorado and federal law.

Confidentiality is fundamental to effective therapeutic work. However, it is not absolute.

Certain circumstances may require or permit disclosure of information, including:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect that must be reported under applicable law

  • Situations involving a serious threat to health or safety when disclosure is legally permitted or required

  • Certain court orders or other lawful proceedings

  • Disclosures required by specific state or federal laws

  • Disclosures authorized by the client through an appropriate written release

Additional exceptions may apply under C.R.S. § 12-245-220 and other applicable laws.

Relevant confidentiality limitations will be explained when they arise, as appropriate and legally permitted.

Further information about the use and disclosure of protected health information is available in The Red Door's separate HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices.

8. Client Records and Retention

The Red Door maintains clinical records in accordance with applicable professional, ethical, and legal requirements.

Colorado law requires disclosure that a client's records may not be maintained after seven years, pursuant to C.R.S. § 12-245-226(1)(a)(II)(A).

Actual record-retention periods and disposal practices are determined by applicable state and federal requirements, including any additional requirements for particular records or circumstances.

Clients may request access to eligible clinical records in accordance with applicable law.

9. Telehealth Services

The Red Door provides individual psychotherapy through telehealth.

Clients must be physically located in a jurisdiction where Emily is authorized to provide the applicable professional services at the time of the appointment.

Telehealth involves technology-related considerations, including privacy, connectivity, suitability, and emergency planning.

Additional information about telehealth procedures, consent, and limitations is provided before treatment begins.

10. Psychoeducational Offerings

In addition to psychotherapy, The Red Door offers structured educational and skills-based experiences, including Red Door Signature Groups™.

These offerings are distinct from individual psychotherapy and are not intended to substitute for individualized mental health treatment.

Participation in a psychoeducational offering does not, by itself, establish a therapist-client relationship.

Each offering has separate information explaining its purpose, structure, participation expectations, and applicable terms.

This Professional Disclosure Statement primarily addresses Emily's licensed psychotherapy practice and does not change the separately disclosed nature of educational services.

11. Professional Regulation and Complaints
